I am therefore not sure how much I am going to able to post while I am here but please do stay if you are a follower as I will be back to the UK in 3 months and will continue then. If you are interested in following my progress here in Bangladesh my new blog about living here is:</span><br />

I am currently packing up my room and getting everything organized for my imminent departure to Bangladesh next week for a 3 month internship. I have no idea what and when I'm going to be able to post there but I will try hard and I am hoping to learn how to cook bangladeshi food. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I made this curry for my parents when I was back home a couple weeks ago and it was very well received. Called the <a href="http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2012/05/the-best-curry-of-your-life.html">'best curry of your life'</a> by Adam from <a href="http://www.amateurgourmet.com/">Amateur Gourmet</a>, (and originally from <span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1e1e; line-height: 22px;">April Bloomfield’s cookbook, A Girl And Her Pig),</span> this curry is exactly that. As he explains, it is not a traditional curry and I'm not even sure which country's curry it is most like, but it is the most flavourful curry I have ever tasted in my life. I recommend you invest in all of these spices because you WILL want to make this curry again. It is so worth all the ingredients that go into it. Yum, thank you Adam, I cannot wait to make this again. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I actually didn't put in fenugreek or the cardamom pods as I made this when I was in France and it's very difficult to get ingredients there. The curry was great without but Adam recommends using all the ingredients so if you can, go the full mile!</span><br />

You are meant to post about your box on the 30th of the month but I've been home in France until today and so came back to a lovely box from <a href="http://kayteascakes.wordpress.com/">KayTea's Cakes</a>. </span><br />

This is an ancient Spring Festival and a public holiday in many countries. In Britain traditionally it is celebrated with maypole celebrations, folk music, crowning a May queen and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_dance">morris dancing</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I am home in eastern France for a week or two before my exams start and early this morning we went up to the castle in the hills behind our village with the Morris Dancing group of the area, a collection of British men and a woman who dance together regularly at ex-pat and British events in the area to begin the day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">It was a really foggy morning (and week!) and I snapped <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/130956129/morris-dancers-on-may-day?ref=shop_home_active">a picture</a> of them up by the castle as they danced bringing in the morning and 'spring' (?). <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/130956129/morris-dancers-on-may-day?">The photo</a> is available for purchase in <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/jessiekays">my etsy shop</a> along with my other photographs from various places in the world. </span><br />

Last weekend we had women's university Nationals and my team, for the third year running, won! We are once again National Champions (if you are at all interested you can read about it <a href="http://www.sussex.ac.uk/students/newsandevents/?id=18958">here</a>). I think it was the cookies. For tournaments we generally bring a lot of food as we are running around all day. I usually make something like brownies or flapjacks but after seeing <a href="http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2013/04/chocolate-cranberry-oat-cookies-so-good-theyll-stop-your-kid-from-crying.html">this </a>post from my <a href="http://www.amateurgourmet.com/">favourite food blogger</a> I decided to make these gorgeous <a href="http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2013/04/chocolate-cranberry-oat-cookies-so-good-theyll-stop-your-kid-from-crying.html">Cranberry Chocolate Oat Cookies</a>. Because I am trying to be more healthy at the moment (more on that soon..here is a <a href="http://toughmudder.com/">sneak preview</a>) I modified the recipe in attempt to make them more healthy. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZDc8F9iv_prYH9EZOdD6DFvGcbdwx2aGMhhYkDaQrBZ7HAFlQ4orIz9rlrxm3BkxSwgM32rYA3JFIwmKoj7NTxjO279a4m7vfwWjrfTakSIrxQpj_YLlxqfLgudMrS7CctI2ybtAKa98/s1600/IMG_4972.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZDc8F9iv_prYH9EZOdD6DFvGcbdwx2aGMhhYkDaQrBZ7HAFlQ4orIz9rlrxm3BkxSwgM32rYA3JFIwmKoj7NTxjO279a4m7vfwWjrfTakSIrxQpj_YLlxqfLgudMrS7CctI2ybtAKa98/s640/IMG_4972.JPG" width="426" /></a><br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">These cookies are GOOD. These are honestly the first cookies that I have ever made, by myself, that I have been pleased with. My cookies always go wrong (<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/312316_10152548117420136_32170996_n.jpg">see here</a>!). These were so unbelievably perfect I found myself eating more than I probably should have. The recipe is easy and the only real difference I noticed between my numerous failed cookie attempts and this one was that the batter was that much more solid.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8tROOQxO8UKYiqB7HYaqVG2HTozXpUfG76uDkR-I0YUyN0xFzs9vFaCR72i0vnvGndrJQkNsbibke59_HMaK1o3J_CHTclv_nOlI4SXQuNL9cv73YTujTa5_ahki5tZKUUY_qBn2NRjc/s1600/IMG_4956.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8tROOQxO8UKYiqB7HYaqVG2HTozXpUfG76uDkR-I0YUyN0xFzs9vFaCR72i0vnvGndrJQkNsbibke59_HMaK1o3J_CHTclv_nOlI4SXQuNL9cv73YTujTa5_ahki5tZKUUY_qBn2NRjc/s640/IMG_4956.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">If I did them again I would probably add another half cup of oats as they definitely could have been more oaty. The second time I made these I added flaked almonds which worked really well. I also baked mine longer as I much prefer crunchy cookies over soft. If you want them soft, I would go with 12-15 minutes baking time as he suggested. My modified and more healthy version is below. Enjoy!</span><br />

Stay tuned though..</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I made pulled pork recently for my friend who came around for dinner and as I said in my<a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/coke-pulled-pork.html"> last pulled pork post</a>, I cannot have it without coleslaw! I decided to make my own instead of buying one so I knew what was going in it and could keep it low fat. As always I browsed a lot of recipes then flung my own together and it worked out so well! I tried to keep track of around how much I was putting in of each thing but all of it was guesswork so definitely play around until you have something you like.</span><br />

I'm currently in the lead up to my finals of my last year of a law degree and as you can imagine my life is packed with so much at the moment. I will try to post a few times during my exam period but I can't promise anything so if you are a follower I hope you will stay until I have my life back! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Until then I will leave you with a great recipe I tried out at Christmas for a party. These <a href="http://www.runningtothekitchen.com/recipes-2/?recipe_id=6016309">Sweet Potato Goat Cheese Puffs</a> from <a href="http://www.runningtothekitchen.com/">Running to the Kitchen</a> went down so well. So well in fact I barely had enough time to take a picture, or at least a good one! They're oh so soft and mushy on the inside full of goodness and crispy and delicious on the outside. They took a bit of time but perfect if you want to bring a fantastic dish to a party or serve something a little different.<br /></span><br />

I recommend making double the recipe.. Next time I would probably add a bit more goats cheese.. it doesn't need it but the flavour was subtle and I do like my goats cheese. In the UK we don't really have cobbler so I was intrigued. I was told it was a bit like crumble but mine certainly didn't turn out like that so I'm not even sure if it turned out right or not! Either way it was GOOD!<br /></span><br />

I found <a href="http://www.theblackpeppercorn.com/2012/04/guinness-bread/">the recipe </a>on the <a href="http://www.theblackpeppercorn.com/">Black Peppercorn</a>. The recipe was ridiculously easy for bread, no kneading, no waiting just some mixing and you're there! I was a little skeptical but I can't tell you how delicious this turned out! It's quite sweet so if you are looking to make more of a savoury bread I would half the sugar.</span><br />

My nan had made me this recipe a few weeks before and as the birthday boy's favourite thing in the world was chicken I decided to make it for him. It's a really easy recipe for how good it is, all in one dish! The recipe calls for a whole chicken cut into 8 but when my nan made it she used thighs so I did the same and used thighs and drumsticks. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br /></span>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">This is a <a href="http://www.bills.com.au/">Bill Granger</a> recipe and comes from the <a href="http://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/">delicious magazine</a> that I have mentioned before, a brilliant magazine for keen cooks (my nan subscribes so I can nick hers!). The recipe recommends to serve with crispy bread and a side salad but I served with mashed potato and it was really good for soaking up all the good gravy!</span><br />

I made this before for my friend Bailey so I know it works well - you can see <a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/elasticated-skirt.html">hers</a> and the tutorial <a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/elasticated-skirt.html">here</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I made it with some fabric I had bought with no intended use.. story of my life before this year.. It's got a really nice weight for a skirt and is navy blue so versatile as a wardrobe item. As you can see from my pictures I used my pinking shears I got for Christmas and my dummy I got for Christmas! It's beautiful! I may shorten it a little but it looks pretty good on my dummy for now until it gets a bit warmer here in Brighton!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><em>10g salt</em></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><em>10g instant yeast</em></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><em>40ml olive oil</em></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><em>400ml tepid water</em></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Lightly oil a 2-3 litre square (or if not rectangular) plastic container.</span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">In a electric mixer, put flour, salt and yeast (without putting yeast and salt directly on eachother) and then start mixing while adding oil and three quarters of the water. When it starts to come together as dough, add the rest of the water a little at a time and mix on a medium speed for 5-8 minutes. It should be smooth after this time, but still sticky.</span><br />

I offered to bring the main as I had </span><a href="http://www.returntosundaysupper.com/2012/02/spicy-new-orleans-barbeque-shrimp-recipe-for-mardi-gras.html"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">pinned a recipe</span></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> I really wanted to try out from </span><a href="http://www.returntosundaysupper.com/"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Return to Sunday Supper</span></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">It did not disappoint! This is a really great recipe if you don't have a lot of time that evening to cook and so easy! I made it all in the morning and left it to marinade in the fridge all day. All I had to do in the evening was pop it in the oven with a baguette. It went down very well and all went - quickly!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPCZs7S4obnn9V-SJ0j2bsz4Ni5sdPHuAipBh7M73NQpErhzohCEIuU3z5C4umnB0kGRVupLibWHeTDIwsIOddTSWZHIAmnLxfuvtz_LZlkomsn_qchsAlWeLTDy1QXpqS5n0-c_ZtsGs/s1600/IMG_3011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPCZs7S4obnn9V-SJ0j2bsz4Ni5sdPHuAipBh7M73NQpErhzohCEIuU3z5C4umnB0kGRVupLibWHeTDIwsIOddTSWZHIAmnLxfuvtz_LZlkomsn_qchsAlWeLTDy1QXpqS5n0-c_ZtsGs/s640/IMG_3011.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">Some of the ingredients I couldn't get as you can't get them in the UK so I have amended the recipe to what I used as substitutes. I was quite accurate in my measurements at first but as I was cooking for 6 people instead of 4 I added more of everything, taste-tested, then added more of things I thought it needed.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">Warning! If you are not a spice-fan, half the cayenne pepper! My amended recipe is below.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"><strong>Spicy New Orleans Barbeque Shrimp</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"><strong>Serves 6</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><i>1.25 kg king prawns, peeled and deveined<br />3/4 C butter, melted<br />2 tbsp Chili Sauce</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><i>2 tbsp tomato salsa<br />6 tbsp olive oil<br />3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce<br />4 tbsp lemon juice<br />2 tbsp fresh parsley + 2 tbsp at end<br />1 tsp cayenne pepper<br />4 tbsp woodsmoke/hickory BBQ sauce<br />1 tsp paprika<br />2 tsp oregano<br />6 cloves minced fresh garlic</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"><i>Dash of tabasco</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"><i>[1 large baguette heated in oven to serve]</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Peel and devein the shrimp. Add all of the other ingredients in a saucepan, stir and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.</span><br />

One of my friends Kate pretty much only eats salad (okay, and seeds and nuts..) so I turned to her for some delicious recipes. Here are two that are simple but were really great and one is even a little winter-y if you're one of those people that don't like eating salad in the winter [I am not!]. Both go well with a dressing of 3:1 oil and balsamic with a tsp or so of smooth mustard.</span><br />

I found <a href="http://alyssabyoung.com/blog/2011/06/14/zucchini-chocolate-chip-muffins/">this recipe</a> on <a href="http://alyssabyoung.com/">Alyssa B. Young</a> and had most of the ingredients already.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">They are really great. The recipe is simple and they turned out better than my cakes usually do with very little effort! The cinnamon especially really worked with the chocolate and they are really light.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My modified version is below - I made a few changes. I'm not a huge nut fan so I took away the walnuts and I didn't have any vanilla so I left it out, and I'm not sure it would add anything. I didn't want to put as much oil in as she suggested but then it seemed dry so I added another egg - worked perfectly! I tried two batches, one with 1C courgette and one with 2C courgette and both were really good so I would recommend doing it with 2C. Pictures are with 1C.</span><br />

There are many tutorials out there for heat packs but I really liked <a href="http://fellowfellow.com/diy-heat-pack/">this one</a> from <a href="http://www.fellowfellow.com/">fellow fellow</a> with the split compartments and stop stitching around the sides. It was an easy project apart from the end trying to sew together the hole with loads of rice in the pack already! I made a bit of a mess with my thread but it's small and white so not wholly noticeable :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">It's not worth me writing out the tutorial as <a href="http://fellowfellow.com/diy-heat-pack/">the one I followed</a> was so good - so head there! The bags are filled with rice - easy to get and cheap!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So for January, I managed pocket warmers and heat packs - pretty fitting for the weather! I think I will continue January's theme throughout the challenge as I really love short projects and have plenty of small scraps left.</span>jessiekayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11976912550515106937noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1618065523528740033.post-80585243923405889142013-01-30T12:12:00.001+01:002013-04-17T09:31:30.074+02:00DIY: Pom Pom!<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I knitted this hat a few years ago when I first learnt to knit and haven't really worn it at all because I thought it was a bit boring. I really like the colour and lost my other hat so decided to put a pom pom on so that I would wear it more!</span><br />

She too is a keen cook so I decided to give her something food-related. I always want to make spice mixes I find on pinterest but I feel like many of them would be a lot of fun to make and then never be used. But then I found chili and taco mix! Starzy cooks for her house every week and I am sure she has done tacos and chili before - ie, a mix she would actually use! It's also good for her as it's not common to have a whole load of spices in a student house..</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I got the r<a href="http://www.mybakingaddiction.com/homemade-chili-and-taco-seasoning/">ecipe from My Baking Addiction</a> and just substituted the onion powder with more garlic powder as I didn't have any. I also halved the chili flakes as I used some from my uncle's garden which are DANGEROUSLY hot!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: #f7f7f7; line-height: 21px;"><i><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">4 tbsp of chili powder</span></i></span><br />

This is such an easy recipe and really was incredible.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">A small change I made with the recipe was mix half the apple mixture and chestnuts into the sausage before putting it in the pie before topping it with the remaining halves of the two. I wanted the flavours to mix and didn't want seperate layers of them. It was delicious like this!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Pork Apple and Chestnut Pie</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>450g Pork sausage meat</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>2 tbsp Chopped fresh sage leaves</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>1/2 tsp Cayenne pepper</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>225g Bramley cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>1 tbsp Caster sugar</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>375g puff pastry (Jus-Rol all butter)</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>200g Whole cooked chestnuts (Merchant gourmet)</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>Beaten egg, to glaze</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C. Mix the sausage meat with the sage and cayenne pepper. Place the apples in a non-stick pan with the sugar, cover with a lid and cook gently until the apples are softened (stir to break down any larger pieces). Set aside.</span><br />

I came across <a href="http://soisewedthis.blogspot.co.uk/">So I sewed this</a>'s post on <a href="http://soisewedthis.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/2013-re-sew-lution-focus-on-enjoyment.html">2013 re-SEW-lution: focus on Enjoyment</a> and immediately wanted to take the pledge. So many pledges this year; 2013 is the year! So without further ado;</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>I will focus on enjoyment this year!</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Sewing related, I will be taking more time over my projects to end up with something of better quality, I will not cut any corners like I have done in the past. I want to really love my creations and want to feel proud of them. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">And, in accordance with the </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/stashbusting-sewalong-2013.html">Stashbusting Sewalon</a></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/stashbusting-sewalong-2013.html">g</a>, will be using fabric already in my stash so I don't spend any more money on fabric I do not need.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">However, </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I am going to extend my pledge beyond sewing and just to my life in general. Within reason, as I need to pass my law degree this year (!), </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I will make time for my friends, the things I enjoy and for myself. I won't be convinced into doing things I do not enjoy. I will do things that make me happy and make others happy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">That is my pledge!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Spread the enjoyment!</span><br />

The last term has been very hectic and coming back to Brighton after my unusually long holiday at home this year is very different and I felt inspired to tackle my ever-growing pinterest list. Short projects really appeal to me as I never have enough time and I can get these done in an afternoon. They were super easy and I quickly made three pairs, one already gifted to my Aunt. I used some Cath Kidston squares I ordered a while back which are so tiny it was difficult to find anything to do with them. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">You will need:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>Fabric scraps</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>Pencil/fabric marker</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>Thread</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>Rice</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>Pinking shears</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Draw a circle on one of your pieces of fabric with a fabric marker or pencil.<br /></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Place your chosen fabrics right side out and sew around the circle leaving a small opening for the rice. Using a funnel or jug pour rice into your pouch (mine were about 5/6 full).</span></div>

The idea is that instead of buying new fabric you use the fabric and scraps you already have. Because I have been so rubbish at sewing this past year this is a really great opporunity to be pushed into using my fabric and actually making things again. I have pledged to use at least 12 different pieces of my stash fabric to make 12 different creations by the end of the year. Mine will be a mixture of clothes and other things. If I can use more than 12 pieces of fabric that would be awesome! I will post everything I make here and also on the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/2122663@N24/">Flickr group</a> dedicated to the Sewalong. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There are themes for each month so I will be following these the best I can:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="line-height: 21px;">A skirt for myself ready for summer. I made <a href="http://whatwouldanerdwear.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/lesson-plan-worlds-easiest-skirt.html">this skirt</a> for Bailey as you can see in <a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/elasticated-skirt.html">this post</a> and it worked out so well I was going to make one for myself. I haven't yet, clearly, so am planning on making it in this fabric - it's a really nice dark royal blue and has a great weight to it for a skirt. I wear a lot of blue so hopefully it will be a versatile item in my wardrobe.</span></span></div>
